Exotic animals

Metazoa makes natural, scientifically grounded feed for a variety of exotic animals: kangaroos, wallabies, alpacas, llamas, camels, dromedaries, zebras, tortoises, green iguanas, bats, lories, sugar gliders and more.

Whether you keep a kangaroo, an iguana or an alpaca, exotic animals are fascinating. To look at, to know more about, to talk about. That fascination is why we exist. We saw how important good food is for your animal. And every animal has its own characteristics. That's why we use our expertise and products to create the perfect nutrition plan.

What are exotic animals?

Exotic animals actually include all animals that are kept by humans. One classification that is often held is that all agricultural and domestic animals are not exotic and the rest are. But the distinction is not always clear. A house mouse (Mus musculus) is not considered exotic, but a dwarf mouse (Micromys minutus) is. While they both live in the wild in the Netherlands.

The nutrition of exotic animals

Exotic animals are closer to nature than other pets and therefore need a specific nutrition plan to stay fit and healthy. Metazoa makes feeds that meet the full nutritional needs of your animals. From thirty years of breeding and feeding experience, we develop nutritional and supplementation solutions that prevent common health problems.

The right food for every species

Rodents (mice, rats, hamsters and gerbils)
Animal protein is indispensable for good breeding and growth results in rodents. Metazoa's rodent food is produced using fish products, eliminating the need to supplement with dog or cat food.
Guinea pigs
Many manufacturers call their guinea pig pellets complete animal feed, but this is usually not correct. Guinea pigs also need hay for a good metabolism. You can supplement that with the guinea pig food of Metazoa. It contains a lot of vitamin C, which guinea pigs need because they do not make it themselves.
Rabbits
Rabbits need to eat a lot of roughage, but like horses they do not get all the essential vitamins, minerals and proteins from it. By supplementing with the feed of Metazoa, you meet the full nutritional needs of your rabbit. Making them strong, fit and healthy.
Alpacas
Alpacas are camelids with a unique physiology, as they naturally live in thin mountain air. Feeding problems often lead to joint problems and foal mortality. Metazoa's feed pellet has been specially developed to supplement essential vitamins, minerals and proteins.
Kangaroos
Kangaroos have high dietary requirements. They cannot be kept on grass for long periods of time - usually they develop health problems after four to seven years. Metazoa's kangaroo pellet has therefore been developed as a necessary addition to the feeding plan.
Poultry
Chickens and other poultry often lack vitamins and minerals. Metazoa offers a unique composition of poultry minerals that completely fulfills this nutritional need.
Loris
When these parrots are kept by humans, they often get porridge. Often, the porridge starts to deteriorate after a few hours, which alters its composition dramatically. Metazoa therefore developed a powder - a complete, balanced diet for lorikeets that does not spoil.
Reptiles
Besides supplementary feeds for different reptile species, we also offer nutritional solutions for the food animals you may feed to your reptiles, such as crickets and fruit flies. The right food for those food animals will make them packed with vitamins and minerals, ensuring your reptile gets those nutrients too.
Sugar gliders
In nature, sugar gliders eat insects, honey and gum from trees. A difficult diet to meet in captivity. Metazoa therefore developed supplementary feed for sugar gliders that replaces these natural food sources.
Fruit bats
From our own experience with straw-coloured fruit bats, we learned that a dietary plan based on fruit alone is not enough. Metazoa fruit bat nectar fills that extra nutritional need. Since 2004, it is also used by zoos and breeding centers to breed endangered fruit bats.
Camels
Camels is the collective name for camelids. They are the working animals of the Middle East, where they are also widely used for sport. Like horses, under the care of humans they eat mostly roughage. But because this is not as varied as their natural menu, they lack nutrients.
Donkeys
It is taken for granted that donkeys will suffer from inflamed hooves at least once in their lives. However, this is a nutritional problem that can be solved with the right feed, for example with Metazoa FitRight Donkey, a natural vitamin and mineral balancer.
